A season of service, growth and challenge
Greetings and blessings to you all.

I pray that Easter was a time of joy and reflection on how Jesus' death and resurrection gives us victory over sin and death.

This has been a season of growth in Compass Urban Stewardship Ministries. The opportunities to serve are increasing, especially in the area of seminars and financial coaching. Relationships and partnerships are being developed and nourished. These increasing demands on my time have impacted my time spent reading the bible. This is a personal disappointment where I have rebuked myself to correct.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 provides  a reminder that I must depend on God's Word as infallibly true and that whatever service is required of me, I must read, understand and follow the direction provided by scriptures. This is absolutely necessary for doctrine, reproof, correction of errors in judgment and practice, and for instruction in righteousness.

Thank you for your continued love, prayers and support. Enjoy our newsletter.

Blessings always,

Compass Urban Money Coach

God has been increasing the number of individuals who are reaching out to Compass Urban to provide Godly, wise, experienced and confidential counsel that will take some of the pain and worry out of their financial life.

We concentrate on increasing monthly cash flow through debt reduction, increasing income, better spending decisions, and money management. This results in converting debt and bad spending decisions to generous giving, increased savings, and good spending decisions.

Topics covered during recent coaching engagements have included:
  • How to handle a cash windfall
  • Purchasing a vehicle for the lowest price and best financing
  • Deciding whether to rent or buy a home
  • Analysis of income and spending to identify areas for improvement and to prepare a realistic budget
  • Preparation of contingency budgets
  • Planning for periodic expenses and "stuff happens"
  • Balancing savings and debt repayment
  • Reducing cost for insurance, phone, internet, TV
  • Identifying opportunities to increase income
  • Identifying needs vs. wants
  • Pursuing income based government student loan debt repayments
  • Providing referrals to Compass Urban partners (with aligned core values) where financial planning, investments or other subject matter expertise is required

Reach out to Compass Urban if you are struggling with your personal finances.

Discipleship through "Just One More"

“Just One More” is based on the premise that every spiritual leader should identify two people a year to disciple. Those who are discipled will …
  • draw closer to God and trust Him more
  • have a greater sense of their purpose
  • increase their humility and leadership potential
I am excited to announce my 2017 “Just One More” colleagues Adonis Willis and Josiah Perkins.

Adonis Willis is a long time friend. He works as a Senior Project Engineer for the Orlando Utilities Commission. He and his wife Telethia are the Compass Church Coordinators  at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Oviedo, FL.
Josiah Perkins is a Senior Analyst (Exchange Trade Fund) at BNY Mellon and involved in the   Brotherhood Ministry at Antioch. He and his wife Kayla recently completed the Compass Navigating Finances God’s Way study.

We are reading four books (Humility by Andrew Murray, Master Plan of Evangelism by Robert  Coleman, Trusting God: Even When Life Hurts by Jerry Bridges, Spiritual Leadership by J. Oswald Sanders) and meet twice a month to:
  • discuss our reading assignments
  • discuss and hold each other accountable for our relationship with God and family, our jobs, our finances, and ministry work
  • maintain a prayer log and celebrate answered prayers
We will also schedule family and ministry activities throughout the year. I love how God is knitting our lives together as we live life together under the principle that getting to know Jesus better is the key to any growth in ministry.

Bring Back The Hymns Showcase

Compass Urban Stewardship Ministries was one of the sponsors for the Bring Back The Hymns Showcase in Las Vegas on Friday March 24th. In addition to a booth setup to share information on Compass products and services with those attending, we were provided five minutes of stage time in front of this national audience. .

The showcase was an ancillary event associated with the annual Stellar Awards. It provides the opportunity for aspiring gospel performers around from churches across the nation to showcase their talents. The winning act will be featured in a major recording release this fall.

We are so grateful to those who donated the sponsorship fee, picked up most of the travel costs, and provided general donations to replenish our coffers.

Asbury Theological Seminary Faith + Work Summit

Compass Urban in conjunction with Compass Central Florida (Bob Shoemaker) participated in the March 9 - 10 Faith + Work Summit at Asbury Theological Seminary in Orlando, FL.

This was a gathering of Christians in business, the church, government, academia and ministry organizations to learn, share best practices and explore collaborative partnerships to affect positive social change.

From George Cope of Vision Orlando and his opening prayer and message on “Faith in the City”, to the other presenters and their faith + work topics, and the b
reakout session to facilitate deeper interaction and engagement around faith-work integration, this was an informative and inspirational time.

International Black Women's Congress Health Symposium

Our "God's Plan for Financial Freedom" presentation at the Central Florida International Black Women's Congress Annual Red Dress Women's Health Symposium on Saturday March 11 in Altamonte Springs, FL. was well received.

Additionally, we provided the audio/video setup for this event and participated in a panel discussion.

I am so pleased that fiscal health is recognized as part of overall health.

We look forward to serving this organization as they celebrate the 25th anniversary of this event in 2018.

Living Generously
Thank you for your ongoing support of this ministry through the donation of your time, talents and treasures.

I am especially grateful to those who responded to a special funding request. Those donations provided for a technology refresh, increased marketing, and allowed us to attend the very important relationship building "Bring Back The Hymns Showcase" in March.

I pray that II Corinthians 9:11 will manifest itself in your life in a supernatural way.
"You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God".
