HORIZON HONORS HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2018 SENIOR TRIP
 Dates:
    Leave Horizon Honors around 8 am* on Thursday, May 31, 2018
    Return to Horizon Honors around 11am* on Friday, June 1, 2018
(*times are tentative; more accurate times will be given closer to the event)
Payment Information:
    Total cost will be determined after deposits have been paid (we need to calculate based on the number of people going), but it should be roughly $150-$180.  (Deposit payments can be cash or check only.)
    $100 NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT DUE FEBRUARY 23, 2018
THIS IS A HARD DEADLINE.  NO NEW SIGNUPS WILL BE ALLOWED AFTER THIS DATE. Payments can be made in the office.
    Balance of payment (roughly $50-$80) due by April 6, 2018.

COURSE SCHEDULING FOR 2018-2019
We’re approaching that exciting time of year again, scheduling for next school year. There are student sessions all day and evening parent sessions all scheduled for March 14th. You will attend information sessions by grade level following the schedule below.  The 2018-2019 scheduling handbook and a sample course selection sheet will be emailed to you March 7th.  At the scheduling meeting you will receive your official 2018-2019 Course Request Form that is color-coded by grade level.
 
Wednesday, March 14th Student Sessions
9:40 am – 10:40 a.m. 11th Grade – Next year’s Seniors
11:40 am – 12:40 p.m. 9th Grade – Next year’s Sophomores
1:10 – 2:10 pm 10th Grade – Next year’s Juniors
 
The Scheduling Handbook and sample Course Requests Form will be emailed to everyone Tuesday, March 7th, so please take the time to preview these tools and prepare questions for the scheduling information sessions.  All scheduling forms are due by end of day Tuesday, April 3rd.  ILP Conferences March 29th and 30th will include discussions focusing on planning for next year and teacher’s signing off on course request forms where needed.

STUDENTS: USE THE HORIZON HONORS APP TO REPORT A CONCERN 24/7
Have you downloaded the Horizon Honors app?

One important area in the app is called "Quick Tip." This is allows students and other community members to anonymously report a concern or problem to their school principal. Users can upload files, including photos/screenshots. Quick Tip is another important tool in keeping our community safe.

FREE SUMMER CAMPS AT GCU!
GCU offers free summer campus for juniors and seniors! There is an application and the deadline is March 15th. 
  • The 2018 Summer Institute is a FREE opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to stay overnight at GCU to experience campus life and explore academic programs such as engineering, computer science, hospitality, business and more.
  • 7 CSET Camps

  • 4 CHSS Camps
  • Applicants must be an Arizona resident
  • Applicants must be a student entering their junior or senior year of high school in fall 2018

FREE FAFSA WORKSHOP
The Arizona Commission for Postsecondary Education and Univision are partnering with other organizations to host a free FAFSA workshop for high school students. Senior Miranda Schindler received the President’s Volunteer Service Award. Created in 1995 by Prudential and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the program honors middle level and high school students for outstanding service to others at the local, state and national level. Way to go!

PARENT COURSE SCHEDULING SUPPORT MEETINGS FOR 2018-2019
It’s that exciting time of year again, scheduling for next school year. Student information sessions run all day, but the parent sessions are in the evening on March 14th in the Community Room.  The 5:30 PM session is for parents of 6th graders who will be attending 7th grade and the 6:45 PM session is for current secondary parents. We hope many of you take advantage of these evening sessions with our entire student support team.  All scheduling materials will be available March 7th via your child’s email and the Horizon Honors Secondary School website in the College and Career Center section.

BOOK FAIR VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Do you enjoy books?  Have you ever thought about helping out with our schools Book Fair?  Now is your chance!  We use SignUp.com to schedule all book fair shifts, click on the link and get your shift, before they are all gone!  Duties may include:  running the register, helping students find prices or a great book, setting up, cleaning up or straightening books.   Our Spring Book Fair will run March 12th-15th.  Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, during elementary Summatives we will remain open until 8pm.  If you have any questions please contact Mindy Duet.
