LEARN... BELIEVE... DREAM... DARE
FIVE HORIZON HONORS SENIORS RECEIVE COLLEGE BOARD HONORS!
Congratulations to Horizon Honors Senior Nik Dave, who has been named a semifinalist in the 63rd annual National Merit Scholarship Program! The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of all U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. Arizona has 281 Semifinalists this year.

Nik took the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test last October. About 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools nationwide took the test, which served as an initial screening of program entrants.

As a semifinalist, Nik will have the opportunity to compete for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million. The names of the Finalists will be announced in February 2018. Scholarship winners’ names will be released in four parts, beginning in April 2018.

Congratulations  to Horizon Honors Seniors Kang Yi Lim and Tejas Markandeya, who have been named commended students by the National Merit Scholarship Program in recognition of their exceptional academic promise. These students also took the PSAT/NMSQT in October 2016 and placed among the top 50,000 scorers. Although commended students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, some of these students become candidates for Special Scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT
ILP CONFERENCES
At Horizon Honors, we value the student-parent-teacher triangle.  This partnership helps our students reach their potential.  Parent involvement is key and can be established during the ILP (Individual Learning Plan) conferences as you review your child’s progress and set goals for the quarter. The plan will cover topics, tasks, and learning outcomes your child will be expected to achieve by the end of the quarter. The written list of goals will serve as both a visual indicator of progress and an agenda for the conference.  Students do not attend school on ILP Conference days, but rather are expected to attend the conference.  First Quarter ILP Conferences are October 19th and 20th.  Appointments can be made by calling 480-659-3000 or stopping by the Secondary School Office.
