COURSE VERIFICATION 2017-2018
You will be receiving your 2017-2018 course verification paperwork in your English class Wednesday or Thursday, May 17th or 18th.  Course Verification must be signed and returned by Monday, May 22nd.  
BAND CONCERTS
Come and hear the Horizon Wind Ensemble, Concert and Symphonic Bands perform on Thursday, May 18th.  The bands will be performing a wide variety of music including marches, classical, and programmatic music. The concert will begin at 6 PM. It will be a wonderful evening of music, so take some time out to come and join us. Hope to see you there!

BOYS VOLLEYBALL PLAYS FOR STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TONIGHT!
Boys Volleyball are headed to the Championship Game! Be there TONIGHT at 5:15 p.m. at Mesquite High School as they play

​Congratulations to Trevor Tam for bringing home Individual State Championships in the 800, 1600, and 3200 meters.  This is such an amazing accomplishment and the school is so proud of you!

GOVERNOR'S YOUTH COMMISSION SEEKS HIGH SCHOOLERS
The Governor's Office of Youth, Faith and Family is searching for teens to join the Governor's Youth Commission. Students must be a high school sophomore, junior or senior in 2017-18 and have demonstrated leadership in and outside of the classroom.

TRANSCRIPTS FOR COLLEGE
Seniors!  Request your final transcripts to be sent to the college you plan to attend in the fall.  Transcripts can be ordered now through parchment.com.   Further instructions can be found at Final Transcript Request to better assist you.  Make sure to click the "Hold for Grades" button if you want the transcripts to include final semester grades.  Please note that staff will be on summer break and these requests should be submitted prior to Monday, June 5th.

Phoenix Public Library Summer Volunteer
The Phoenix Public Library is recruiting a limited number of teens, ages 12-17, to volunteer May 29 - July 29, 2017.
 
Learn more about becoming a teen summer volunteer.  It's fun. It's rewarding. It looks great on college applications. It can help you get a job. Free Job Skills 101 workshops just for teen summer volunteers.
 
Baby Item Drive
May 15th – May 19th
Key Club will be collecting baby items for children in Foster Homes. Items needed are:  Baby clothing newborn to 5T, booties/socks, bathing items, sippy cups, umbrella strollers, diapers, bottles, baby books, diaper rash cream, blankets, shoes or gift cards. Collection boxes will be in the front office, Mr. V's room and in the Media Center. 
 
Phoenix Rescue Mission Fill-a-Bag, Feed-a-Family
This program is an integral part of making sure we can give hope and a hand up to an incredible number of needy families in our community.  If you would like to participate, pick up an orange bag in the Media Center and fill with staple items:  cereal, soup, peanut butter, rice/pasta, beans, canned vegies, canned meat, soap, toothpaste, toilet paper.  Please return the bag to the Media Center by Friday, May 12th.  
 

REMINDER:

Horizon Honors Secondary School’s yearbook program has been named a 2017 Jostens’ National Yearbook Program of Excellence. The National Yearbook Program of Excellence recognizes engaging yearbooks that reflect a broad representation of the student body while helping students develop 21st century skills such as communication, collaboration, and information and communication technologies (ICT) literacy.  

Less than 2% of schools get the award nationally.This is our 4th consecutive year earning the award. W​e have the highest coverage percentage in our region and are at the top for coverage nationally.

Jostens’ National Yearbook Program of Excellence Awards are presented twice a year, in spring and in fall for yearbooks delivered during the school year. The Award was presented to the Horizon Honors Secondary School yearbook program for achieving the defined criteria in each of three following categories: creating an inclusive yearbook, generating school engagement, and successfully managing the yearbook creation process.

GRADUATION TICKETS/ CAP & GOWN DISTRIBUTION
Graduation tickets, as well as caps and gowns, will be available for pick up on Monday, May 15th.  Students or parents may pick up the items.  Only students with their fees paid in full may pick up the items.  If you do not need all 10 tickets, please return the extras to the office for families who need more seating.  Thank you!
