GRADUATION TICKETS/ CAP & GOWN DISTRIBUTION
Graduation tickets, as well as caps and gowns, will be available for pick up on Monday, May 15th.  Students or parents may pick up the items.  Only students with their fees paid in full may pick up the items.  If you do not need all 10 tickets, please return the extras to the office for families who need more seating.  Thank you!
JUNIORS
Juniors, it's time to talk about your senior portraits! Southwest Portraits will be here on Wednesday, May 10th at 9:45 a.m.  Please go to your sixth period class for attendance.   Your teacher will release you for the presentation.  See you then!

JUNIOR/SENIOR PROM IS TOMORROW!
Juniors and Seniors -- your 2017 prom is almost here!  Please join us for A Night at the Museum as we dance the night away under the stars at the Arizona Museum of Natural History.  When you need a break from dancing, you can enjoy some desserts, visit some of the museum exhibits, and take a few timeless photos with the dinosaurs.  Prom is 
Saturday, May 6, from 8pm-midnight.  Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door (cash or check only).  The Arizona Museum of Natural History is located at 53 N. Macdonald, Mesa, AZ 85201.  Guest forms are available in the office. See you there!

HS BASEBALL STATE TOURNAMENT STARTS TODAY!
Come out and support your High School Baseball Team in the State Tournament tonight at 6:30 p.m. versus Phoenix Christian at the Goodyear Baseball Complex. 
 
Adults: $10, students with ID, $5.

HS VOLLEYBALL STATE TOURNAMENT STARTS TOMORROW AT HOME!
We will be hosting the first round of the AIA 5A State Boys Volleyball Championships this Saturday at 4 p.m. at Horizon Honors.  Our opponent is still to be determined. Because this is an AIA event, all adults and students will have to pay admission; $10 adults, $5 for students with ID.  Please come out and support the Eagles as we begin our march towards a State Championship.  Go Eagles!

CO-ED TRACK & FIELD
The track team finished the season with the Knights of Columbus and Desert Vista meets.
 
At the Knights of Columbus meet, Noe Ramirez ran a season’s best of 1600 meters in 4:57. Ben Riddle attained personal records in both the 200 and 400 meters with times of 25.68 and 58.18, respectively.
 
The Desert Vista meet was highlighted by Torie Farhar running a season's best of 6:28 in the 1600 meter. Trevor Tam nudged down his time for the 3200 meter for a personal record of 9:45 placing him second in a great race.
CO-ED GOLF
On Monday the team competed at Kokopelli Golf Course and finishing third with a team score of 210. Anna Cochrane led the way shooting a 44. Emily Harry had a solid outing, posting a 50. Ethan Spragg shot a personal best score of 60.
 
The following day the team traveled to Camelback Golf Club for their last match of the season taking second place to Phoenix Country Day. Christian Rivers was low scorer for Horizon shooting a 50.

COLLEGE & CAREER CENTER
GOVERNOR'S YOUTH COMMISSION SEEKS HIGH SCHOOLERS
The Governor's Office of Youth, Faith and Family is searching for teens to join the Governor's Youth Commission. Students must be a high school sophomore, junior or senior in 2017-18 and have demonstrated leadership in and outside of the classroom.

TRANSCRIPTS FOR COLLEGE
Seniors!  Request your final transcripts to be sent to the college you plan to attend in the fall.  Transcripts can be ordered now through parchment.com.   Further instructions can be found at Final Transcript Request to better assist you.  Make sure to click the "Hold for Grades" button if you want the transcripts to include final semester grades.  Please note that staff will be on summer break and these requests should be submitted prior to Monday, June 5th.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
Phoenix Public Library Summer Volunteer
The Phoenix Public Library is recruiting a limited number of teens, ages 12-17, to volunteer May 29 - July 29, 2017.
 
Learn more about becoming a teen summer volunteer.  It's fun. It's rewarding. It looks great on college applications. It can help you get a job. Free Job Skills 101 workshops just for teen summer volunteers.
 
Baby Item Drive
May 15th – May 19th
Key Club will be collecting baby items for children in Foster Homes. Items needed are:  Baby clothing newborn to 5T, booties/socks, bathing items, sippy cups, umbrella strollers, diapers, bottles, baby books, diaper rash cream, blankets, shoes or gift cards. Collection boxes will be in the front office, Mr. V's room and in the Media Center. 
 
Phoenix Rescue Mission Fill-a-Bag, Feed-a-Family
This program is an integral part of making sure we can give hope and a hand up to an incredible number of needy families in our community.  If you would like to participate, pick up an orange bag in the Media Center and fill with staple items:  cereal, soup, peanut butter, rice/pasta, beans, canned vegies, canned meat, soap, toothpaste, toilet paper.  Please return the bag to the Media Center by Friday, May 12th.  
 
Volunteer Opportunities on Campus
Please join us Friday, May 12th in the Multipurpose Room from 2:30 to 5:00 pm to make sandwiches, decorate lunch bags, write inspirational messages and pack them all together for the Phoenix Rescue Mission.  Preparing a batch of sack meals is a quick and easy way to help our homeless population stay fed, safe and healthy. So bring a friend and come help for a bit or the entire shift.  Key Club provides all items needed for this event.  Contact Mindy Duet if you have any questions.
