Karin Brookes Named as
New Executive Director
of Early Music America
The Board of Directors of Early Music America would like to welcome Karin Brookes as the new Executive Director.

Our Board of Directors is delighted to have Karin join us as EMA’s next leader. This was an exciting and competitive national search. I’m thrilled to welcome Karin and look forward to collaborating with her as she leads us to even greater impact within the sector. - Miguel Rodriguez, EMA Board President

Brookes comes to Early Music America from Early Music Seattle, where she has been Development Director since 2015. She has also worked in Seattle for the Northwest Boychoir and for Pacific MusicWorks.

A native of the U.K., Brookes lived and worked in London, Philadelphia, and Glasgow before moving to Seattle with her family in 2011. Early Music has been woven throughout her life, from when she encountered Giovanni Gabrieli’s  Sonata pian’ e forte  during a high school music course, and she has sung in many early music choirs. Before moving to the USA, she was assistant to Christopher Hogwood and manager of the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge.

Brookes has degrees in French and Music from the Universities of Edinburgh and Cambridge, and a Master of Journalism degree from Temple University, Philadelphia. She lives in Seattle with her husband, Simon Woods, and she has a son at Oberlin College and a daughter who is a high school junior.

North America has had a thriving early music scene for many years, in all corners of the continent. EMA has members around the world, and I look forward to doing everything I can to ensure that as many people as possible have the opportunity to experience the fabulous music we love.   - Karin Brookes
