Spotlight on

Joseph Wayne Henderson, D.D.

Dr. Joseph W. Henderson was born and raised in Tallahassee. He earned his first bachelor’s degree at FAMU in Physics with a minor in Mathematics. He was commissioned and served seven years as an officer in the U.S. Navy, which took him to the Persian Gulf in 1987/88. After his sea duty tour, he began teaching as an Assistant Professor of Naval Science at Prairie View Agricultural and Mechanical University in Texas. In 1988 Dr. Henderson married the former Cynthia Wallace, with whom he has a daughter, Donetta Henderson. By the time he returned to civilian life in 1992, he had earned the Navy Achievement Medal, National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Service Medal, Sea Service Ribbon and various other citations.
Next, Dr. Henderson was employed by the State of Florida for nearly six years until he resigned to pursue full-time ministerial work. To equip himself, he earned a B.A. in Biblical Studies from American Bible College in Bethany, Oklahoma. He served as an associate and youth minister at Walk With Me Church of God in Christ (COGIC) in Long Beach, California, then as associate minister then pastor at Prairie View Chapel COGIC in Houston. He relinquished his ordination credentials in the COGIC and was re-licensed under the Interdenominational Ministries by Bishop Shelton Bady. In November 1992 he founded Celebrate New Life Tabernacle Church (CNLT) in Tallahassee, where he is currently the Senior Pastor and C.E.O.
CNLT is a growing, independent, non-denominational church with over 300 members and a big impact in the community and around the world. One example among many is that under Dr. Henderson’s direction, CNLT constructed the 4,000-square-foot Timothy Training and Development Center, which houses several community social services ministries for tutoring and mentoring; job training; and adult literacy and GED programs. Dr. Henderson and CNLT have done evangelistic ministry and missions work in Kenya, Uganda and the Philippines helping provide food, medical supplies, and native-tongue Bibles, and participating in disaster-relief efforts. To learn more about the many ministries of CNLT, visit http://www.cnlt.org/. In addition to his church duties, Dr. Henderson served three years on the board of the Emergency Care Help Organization (ECHO). Dr. Henderson is heard weekly with his radio program, “Keys to the Kingdom,” which airs on WFRF, Faith Radio of Florida 105.7 FM, and WHBT, Heaven 1410 AM.
In 2009 Reverend Henderson was honored by the conferring of a Doctor of Divinity degree from Saint Thomas Christian College of Jacksonville for his ministry achievements during his 22 years of ministerial service and work.  In addition, he holds an M.A. in Theology and is finalizing his Ph.D. degree both at Trinity Theological Seminary in Newburgh, Indiana.
Finally, Dr. Henderson is also an instructor at TCCTC (where his students call him Pastor Joe). He teaches several courses of paramount importance to those in or aspiring to the ministry: Expository Preaching, Pastoral Ministry and Racial Motifs in Biblical Narratives. Considering all that Dr. Henderson is doing, TCCTC is blessed that he finds the time to teach!

Dr. Henderson’s life verse is

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
