Join Us in Giving Locally!
Strowd Roses helps local people address local needs. We are the only charitable foundation focused specifically on improving the quality of life in Chapel Hill-Carrboro. We and our grantees cannot meet all of our community's needs alone. Won't you join us in giving locally?

Our Past Year
2015 was full of exciting milestones and growth! We wrapped up our first year of having a part-time executive director and when compared to 2014, saw a 240% increase in our total number of first-time grant applicants and a 38% increase in the total number of applications received.
We also entered uncharted digital waters—Strowd Roses launched a new searchable website and now has a presence on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. We hope that you will connect with us! For a quick snapshot of our operations and grants in 2015, please click here

Our Grantees
This issue's grantee spotlight is on Volunteers for Youth, Inc. (VFY). Since our first award to VFY in 2002, Strowd Roses has invested $65,000 in their general operations and mentoring program. Executive Director Susan Worley, shared, "Volunteers for Youth is so happy to be a part of celebrating Strowd Roses' 15 years of service in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro community! Over these last 15 years, Strowd Roses has worked in true partnership with local nonprofit organizations to better the lives of all our citizens. Strowd Roses is a genuine treasure to our community."

Our Garden
Dedicated in 1990 and named in honor of one of our benefactors, the Gene Strowd Community Rose Garden is home to more than 350 bushes of 150 rose varieties. The roses typically begin blooming in May and continue to display their gorgeous colors through December. The garden is free and open to the public every day and can be reserved at no charge for small special events such as weddings, photo shoots and baby showers. Nestled beside the Town of Chapel Hill Community Center Park, Bolin Creek Trail and a fabulous playground, the garden is the perfect spot for a picnic or stroll.
