NAMI Will-Grundy attended the New Lenox CERT meeting in October and learned about a program offered called the "Yellow Dot" program.  You are given a medical information card and Yellow Dot Sticker.  Fill out the medical information including your name, emergency contacts, hospital preference, doctors' information, medical issues, allergies, medication dosage and insurance information and keep this card in your glove box.   The yellow dot sticker is placed on the drivers' side rear window.  If you are involved in an accident or medical emergency while in your vehicle, first responders will know to check the glove box for all the medical information.  This is not yet available in all areas.  Check with your city's first responders to see if if's available in your area.

NAMI Family-to-Family is taught by NAMI-trained family members who have been there, and includes presentations, discussion and interactive exercises.

The next dates are in the Spring of 2016.  We have a 12-week evening class that begins on February 25th from 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.  We also have a 6 week Saturday course beginning on March 12th from 10:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

NAMI BASICS CLASS FOR PARENTS

NAMI Basics is a FREE, 6-week education program for parents and family caregivers of children and teens whom are experiencing symptoms of a mental illness or whom have already been diagnosed. NAMI Basics is offered in a group setting so you can connect with other people face-to-face. You'll learn the facts about mental health conditions and how best to support your child at home, at school and when they're getting medical care. Last year, 99% of participants told us they would recommend the program to other parents. The course is taught by a trained team with lived experience—they know what you're going through because they've been there. The 6-session program provides critical strategies for taking care of your child and learning the ropes of recovery.

Our next class starts on Tuesday, February 9th from 6:00 p.m, - 8:30 p.m. This class is FREE however, pre-registration is required.  Register via email at marketing@namiwillgrundy.org or call (815) 955-8411.
