On Thursday, September 13th, our beloved Barbara Beresford unexpectedly passed away. Barbara was president of STC TC for the last six years.

A memorial service was held for her on Sunday, September 16th. Deanne Levander and Lily Keire attended the memorial. All six of Barbara's siblings and their families were present. As well, the director and musicians in the Roseville String Orchestra, where Barbara played violin, also attended.

STC TC invites you to gather at The Wedge Table to remember Barbara. Bring pictures and/or a story about an experience you had professionally or informally with Barbara.

A la carte food is provided by STC TC.

Parking is available immediately to the left as you face the front of the building.

Calling for Stories about Barbara Beresford

As you know, Barbara was very well connected in the technical communication world. She was gregarious. She was ever curious and very good at outreach. Many people knew her. It is only fitting that we publish something about Barbara in the STC Intercom.

To that end, Deanne Levander and Lily Keire are writing an in memoriam article about Barbara for the the STC Intercom November edition.

The deadline to submit the article is October 9th. If you would like to contribute to the article, please send your contribution to and we will add your piece to what we submit to STC.

Nerd Night has been Postponed until November 13th

Calling all self-made tech comm nerds!
Lightning talks. TED talks. Conference progressions. Do you get tired of being the person scrambling up the mountain to ask the guru for wisdom?
Have you encountered Nerd Night? No gurus. No seekers. Just nerds like you and me.

Three people take 20 minutes each to share what they're passionately nerdy about, revealing to their fellow nerds – you and me – what's wonderful and amazing about some particular thing. It’s not about teaching; it’s about sharing the passion.
What aspect of your work do you love the most? Would you be willing to give a 20-minute "show and tell" about it? You don't need to be an expert; you just need to care a lot about your topic.

The intent is to share passion with peers, not to impart wisdom to novices. The desired reaction is “How cool! Now I want to delve into that!”
