“I would rather be ashes than dust!
I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze
than it should be stifled by dry-rot.
I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow,
than a sleepy and permanent planet.
The function of humans is to live, not to exist.
I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them.
I shall use my time.”

Dear Friends,

On Sunday, we entered into the time of Pentecost, marking the Holy Spirit's confirmation of her presence in our lives. Hers is a spirit that flows from someplace deep and ancient, long before and beyond time. The Ruach haKodesh (Hebrew and feminine), the Holy Breath of God, the spirit that "brooded over the waters" in anticipation of Creation (Genesis 1:2) is the same Spirit that creates in us a listening heart to the God who is still speaking and calling us. Here, in one another's company, it is easy to see the Spirit at work and play. From the humor and easy laughter to the deep compassion and healing we share...we are alive in a time and place of God. Breathe it all in, Friends, for that breath is God, as well!

I look forward to seeing you all on Sundays, and I welcome your visits during the week. My hours vary a bit, but if you would like to meet - please let me know and we will find a time to make that happen! Also, I ask that you let me know if you know of anyone who is unable to be with us that would enjoy a visit from me, our Deacons, or one of the members of our congregation.

There is much to read in this week's eChimes, so take a moment when you can to look it over. I also ask that you visit our website, when you have time at We are posting more and more information on the site, including recent videos from worship (which are being added to on a regular basis).

I also ask you to visit us on Facebook at and, if you are so inclined, "Like" our page and offer a "review." People find us on Facebook all the time and your comments and "Likes" have an impact on their deciding whether to visit us.

As with all of our ways of communicating and sharing information, we welcome your comments and suggestions. If you know of someone who would like receive eChimes in printed format - please let me know.

Remember to send any announcements you would like included in eChimes or our Sunday bulletins as soon as possible to Email Heather Corcoran, Editor. We want to make sure we do all we can to include all the information you wish to share on a timely basis.

And, lastly, if the Spirit moves you or if you feel the slightest "nudge" to give someone a call and let them know you were thinking of them - well, that's a sign, I think. You'll know for sure after you call! :)

With love,

Eyes on ICE Webinary  Sign Up Here

Join Immigrant Defense Project (IDP) & WITNESS for a webinar on the power and perils of filming Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and how to safely, ethically and effectively document encounters. For years, ICE has surveilled and targeted immigrant communities at their homes, workplaces and in public spaces. During raids, ICE agents have used harmful tactics – like violence, intimidation and deception – often only seen by immediate witnesses. Filming ICE on a cell phone or other device can help expose illegal activity and rights abuses committed by ICE officers, deter violence, confirm reports and serve as evidence. However, if footage isn’t captured and/or shared safely and ethically, there can be unintended harm to both the person being filmed and the person filming. Join the webinar to learn more! We hope to make the presentation available in Spanish in the near future. Please let us know if this is of interest or if you know of resources that might help us make this possible. If you have any questions or issues registering, please email Michelle Parris at
Accompaniment Ministry Opportunities
Members and friends of our congregation continue to accompany individuals appearing before immigration courts, both on Long Island and in New York City. Accompaniment is a powerful way to witness – just by your presence – that folks facing immigration hearings have community among us. If you would like to learn more about accompaniment or be placed on the email list to learn of upcoming accompaniment opportunities, please contact

Our Members & Friends Summer Art Display Needs Your Photos!!
We are excited to resume our summer tradition of displaying the artwork of our church members and friends on our Sanctuary East Wall Gallery during July and August! This year we want to feature your favorite photographs. Everyone is welcome to contribute one or two photos you have taken. They need to be "gallery ready", meaning framed or stretched, and ready to hang. They will likely need to be enlarged, but not mandatory. (Costco is a great place to do this inexpensively)

Please label them on the back with your NAME, PHONE NUMBER, and a TITLE for your creation. We will do an explanatory flyer so people can find out who you are so they can tell you how much they love your work!

Please bring your creations to church on Sunday, June 25th. Also, please fill out the form that you will find on the Resource Table, so we can keep track of all contributions and their owners. Give both your art and the slip to either Kari Kaczmarek or Connie Kauffman. If you have any questions, just call Connie at 631-766-4724.

We are always happily surprised by our summer show. It's great to see what our members and friends create in their lives beyond Sunday mornings! Please be a part of this great event!!!

Annual Bake Sale

Strengthen the Church (STC) is a special mission offering to reimagine and build the future of the UCC. Shared at the conference and national levels, STC largely supports youth ministries and full-time leaders for new churches in parts of the country where the UCC voice has not been heard.

As God calls our congregations to be the church in new ways, your generosity will plant new churches, awaken new ideas in existing churches and develop the spiritual life in our youth and young adults.

Stop & Shop Cards are available at coffee hour each week.
They make great gifts and are great way to purchase your groceries
