Dear Friends,
Tomorrow, March 1st  is Ash Wednesday. We will be gathering in the sanctuary for Ash Wednesday Service at 7 PM. Please join us, if you are able. All and all ages are welcome!
It seems like Lent arrived without any notice, doesn’t it? With forecasted temperatures in the next few days approaching 60°, it almost feels like a step backwards to embrace the expected chilly and short days of the beginning of Lent. Chances are there are a few of those days yet to come!
Still, I think that the unpredictability of the climate cycles reflects the same of God in our lives. There is always the assurance of God, as our new banners hung on Sunday remind us. And, along with the assurance and the promise of being with us always and an answer to fear, God’s presence frequently appears in surprising ways; always with a touch of love and presence that helps us take a deep breath and remember, “We are not alone”. Nor are those who we love alone, we work with alone, those who care for us or for whom we care… we are surrounded by God and God’s Love. A moment to stop and listen, breathe and be still opens channels to the vibrations of God all around us…without regard for the weather or the calendar.
For me, maybe for you, no teaching breaks through the atmospherics of activity and into the moment better than Jesus’s. As this time of Lent takes us to the very depths of cruelty and how love overwhelms it all, the influence of Jesus’s teachings are enormous and powerfully represented to the world.
That said, for me, maybe for you, this time of the year is not an easy path to walk again! It’s not easy to know we are headed toward the horrors of Jesus’s crucifixion. However, the power of Jesus and his resurrected presence in our lives resounds with the message, “Be not afraid. I am with you – often in surprising and unexpected ways!” adding, I am sure, “And, I love you beyond your wildest imaginings! Breathe. Be still. Know I am with you.”
It is that which I repeat to myself daily and often; the effects of remembering this and other promises are life-changing for me.

And speaking of life-changing…
Please join us this Saturday, March 4th at 7PM in our sanctuary for a fundraiser concert in support of Hope House Ministries, now in its 37th year of helping our sisters and brothers on their road to wholeness. The show begins at 7 PM and tickets are still available by calling Heather Corcoran at 631-589-1519. There is no charge for tickets; a good-will offering will be accepted during a brief intermission. Cash is accepted and checks can be made out to Hope House Ministries or Sayville Congregational United Church of Christ, Memo: Hope House Ministries. Meditation Times…

We are working on a schedule for the sanctuary to be open during the week, so that it can be a place for meditation, prayer or just to sit quietly in the welcoming of the space. If you are in the area and wish to stop in, please do so! If it happens to be closed, come on over to the office and we will open the doors!

Bible Talk (Discussion & Study)
Our next Bible Talk will be held in the Vestry on
Monday,  March 6th at 11:45 AM - 1:00 PM and
                      Tuesday, March 7th at   7:00 PM - 8:15 PM.
Both groups consider the same passages as a basis for our discussion, which are group-led. Passages for next week will be from Matthew 4:1-11, Psalm 121 and John 3:1-17.
Please join us. All are welcome, including children!
If you have a moment, please visit our website at and our Facebook page at  New information and pictures are posted regularly, and we invite you share any postings of interest.
Before I close, I want to mention that the steering committee that formed to revive our Social Action Committee has been hard at work. We have had two meetings and a great deal of collection and organization has been done. This information will be distributed online and in print and relies on everyone sending us whatever information or events that you think should be shared with the congregation. For now, please send any links of information you come across to me at In the subject heading please type “Social Action Committee.” That will make it easier for me to organize the information we receive.
Just one thing… please review the links you send us to make sure they seem legitimate. Some things will always get through, but your help in vetting what you wish to share will be a big help.
Look for more in next week’s eChimes!
Blessings to you all,

Prayers for Tom Wolf and Kay, David and Debbie as Tom prepares for triple bypass surgery on Monday, March 6th at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. Tom asked that we share this information with you and that he looks forward to seeing everyone soon. We will let you know how Tom is doing, and I am sure he and Kay would enjoy hearing from you as they move through the week ahead.
