Bill HB 5129
An Act Concerning the Administration of Vaccines By Pharmacists and Medical Assistants and the Listing of Certified Medical Assistants

images-2.jpg

On February 12, 2016 the Public Health Committee raised our bill for the 2016 CT Legislative session. The bill is HB 5129, An Act Concerning the Administration of Vaccines By Pharmacists and Medical Assistants and the Listing of Certified Medical Assistants. Since the raising of our bill in February, The Public Health Commintee passed our Bill, however they changed the wording to only allow CMA(AAMA)s and RMA(AAMA)s that have graduated from an accredited school to administer ONLY the Flu Vaccine. It is not what we were hoping for but it is a step in the right direction. The Senate has also passed our bill. The last step in this process is getting it passed through The House of Respresentatives. This is where last year our Bill ended up getting stuck and never voted on. Our Lobbyist Jim is very hopeful that this may be our year. However, we are getting a lot of opposition from the nurses. This is when we need our members and all CMA(AAMA)s in Connecticut to start writting their local Representaive and inform them about our Bill and how we are compitent and educated to administer the Flu Vaccines. Click on the link below to find your local Representative(please only contact your State Representative) If you need help with writing your letter, click on "Sample Letter" link. PLease submit these letters ASAP. This is a short CT Legislative session and the vote will be in the next 2-3 weeks.
